Well, what can I say? It has been a crazy year! The good news is, we are still standing and we are still doing good business.

September 4th 2010, took us all by surprise when we were rudely awakened by the sound of a freight train coming through the house and intense shaking for what seemed like a lifetime. We’ve all felt earthquakes before, but nothing like this. Cantabrians were in shock but we got back up, cleaned up the mess and carried on. Things were getting back to normal, the aftershocks were settling down and that 7.1 September quake was in the past. Then out of the blue, on a drizzly February day, we were hit with the most devastating earthquake in New Zealand history. Everything as we knew it, would change forever. Our city destroyed, lives lost and spirits crushed.
And again, we picked ourselves back up and carried on. We have a new sense of camaraderie with fellow Christchurch people. We now know our neighbours a bit better and we look out for one another.
We need to support Christchurch businesses and help clean up and re-build our city for ourselves and for our children. Shardlows has donated goods to various local earthquake relief groups, including Avonside, Sumner and Dallington. We have seen how our customers have adapted to their new environments, including containers, garages, pop up shops and local markets.
All of us at Shardlows feel incredibly fortunate that all our families were safe and unharmed and we send out our deepest sympathy to all that have lost someone dear to them. We wish all our affected customers all the best in re-establishing themselves and we look forward to continuing business with you all.
